Jeanette M Smith, CTA, ATT

Jeanette Smith is a member of the Association of Tax Technicians and qualified as a Chartered Tax Adviser in 1993. Jeanette trained with KPMG and went on to become a member of the management team advising owner managed businesses in tax matters. She joined Peter Howard & Co as a Tax Manager in 1997 and was appointed a director in 1998, heading up the Tax team.

Jeanette advises clients through the life cycle of a business, from initial start-ups to shareholder exit planning, providing practical tax planning solutions for the myriad of issues that arise. She has a special interest in property tax planning, with expertise in buy to let, furnished holiday lettings, private residence relief and development and investment issues.

Jeanette has a busy family life with two daughters, two dogs and one husband. Unfortunately she has left her baton twirling skills behind after winning Majorette of the Year in 1979 but her Radio Luxembourg appearance has stood her in good stead for her annual expert Budget commentary on local radio station, Stray FM.

Simon C Foreman, FCA

Simon Foreman heads the Accounts, Audit and Business Advisory team, together with specialist Medical Accounting Group. Qualifying with an independent Leeds firm in 1984, Simon then joined Coopers & Lybrand to specialise in audit. This was followed by a position as senior Audit Manager at Pannell Kerr Forster before joining Peter Howard & Co as a director in 1998.

Aside from being an Audit Specialist, Simon is particularly interested in assisting clients to raise finance and produce business plans. He loves to work closely with business managers and provides advice on strategic and financial issues to improve profitability.

Simon is keen golfer, plays off 12 and is often seen on the course at Pannal Golf Club. When not wielding a club, he enjoys travel and Dales walking with wife Gillie and their two teenage children.

Kerry Birch, FCCA, CTA

Kerry joined the firm in 2014 having worked for the Leeds office of a national firm. Originally qualifying as a certified accountant, she developed a keen interest in tax and moved into that area post qualification. She passed her CIOT exams in 2018.

Kerry advises clients on all aspects of tax, not only ensuring that their compliance needs are met but also providing proactive tax advice on a number of topics including succession planning, tax efficient extraction, implementation of share schemes and residency reviews.

Outside of work Kerry is a kept busy by her family and enjoys eating out and travelling to anywhere the sun shines!
